Gala Advertising

Hey Blog World, the past few weeks for inquiry we have been working on advertising because we have a gala day coming up. We have been making Digital Posters, paper posters flyers, and videos. Me and my friend Hame have been working on our huge big paper poster. We copied it off our drawing we made. It was fun making it with him and collaborating with him. But the challenging thirng was we both didn't want to draw and colour the poster.

Reflection- I had so much fun advertising our gala day. Working with my friend was fun and I learnt that sometimes your friends do things differently to the way you do things and also what stands out and what doesn't stand out on a poster.

Here's my big poster and my digital ones. Hope you enjoy please feel free to comment.

Book Review

Hey Blog World, the past few weeks we have been working on a book review. We were given a novel to read. As we read it we had to fill in the slides. The slides were filled with tasks and questions. We had to complete it. We also had fill in the beggining, middle and end. That was our plot. We also had to fill in words we didn't understand in the book. This experience was fun. I found the book interesting and I loved creating characters using build my wild self. The challenging thing was the six thinking hats.In some of the hats I couldn't think of some ideas to put into the hat.

Reflection- This experience was fun. I loved reading the book. It was really interesting. It reminded me of the time I did it last year. It was fun using screencastify to read my favourite part of the story

Here's my slide's . Hope you enjoy. Please feel free to comment.

Cybersmart My Maps

Hey Blog World, this week for cybersmart we discussed the connections we made on our blogs with other schools, like commenting or posting. Then we went on google maps and used the function my maps with Gerhard and discussed all the other clusters that are like Ako Hiko. Then on maps we used different layers to label all five clusters. The names of the clusters are Uru Manuka, Ako Hiko, Manaiakalani, Kootuitui, and Toki Pounamu. We added all the schools in those clusters to each layer. The challenging bit was adding all the schools to the layers because sometimes there were a lot of schools in the clusters. It was fun because we got to find out what other schools there are in NZ. It was fun doing cybersmart with Gerhard. I learnt so much about the other clusters. Here's the map I did. Hope you enjoy. Please feel free to comment.

Hey Blog World, for inquiry these past term we have been working on our presentation on mountains. First we had to pick a topic e.g(Animals, sports even a movie on mountains), I picked the movie alive. This movie was based on a true story about a plane crash in the mountains. Then we put our priorknowledge into a define map. We put all the knowledge we knew into relevant and in relevant box. Then we put questions on a google document. After that we researched and found the answers to our questions. Then it came to the exciting bit. We went and the teachers let us present our inquiry any which way we wanted e.g(art, a website, a video or a google slide animation) . Later this week we might get into small groups and take turns presenting our information. The challenging thing was that sometimes it was hard to find the information on my questions. But the part I really enjoyed was when I got to do my presentation. I really enjoyed this experience because I liked finding out more information on mountains. I also had fun doing my presentation. Here's my presentation. Hope you enjoy. Please feel free to comment. Click on the link below please.

Dance & Music

Hey Blog World, these past few weeks we have been doing dance and music. Different people from each of the three classes in Te Waka Ako have been going into different groups with different teachers. Then we split off into different groups in each class.

We practiced dances to music. We had the choice of two different pieces of music. There was an upbeat one and a slow one. First we looked at some slides for motivation. The two pieces of music were put on the slides too. Next we created a beginning to our dance and showed it to our group. Then the next couple of weeks after, on Wednesdays, we had to create the whole dance to the music. We didn't have to dance to the whole piece of music. We could say when we wanted the music to stop. Only a few groups danced to the end of the music. After a couple of weeks  we showed our whole class our dances. Then the next day we did our dances in front of the whole syndicate. It was fun.

The challenging thing was sometimes my group didn't collaborate properly and argued a lot (includng me). The positive thing was we had fun dancing when we weren't arguing. My reflection- I had fun doing the dance. I also liked performing in front of the syndicate. Performing is one of the things I am good at. From this experience I learnt that I should think about other people's ideas. I also learnt that working with people I don't really know about teaches me more about their personalities and I also learnt how to collaborate with others. Here's the slides and videos of our dances. Please feel free to comment.

Magical World Of Crazy Science

Hey Blog World, today we had a science show. Richard and Robyn hosted the show. They showed us cool tricks and taught us about crazy science. Robyn was the Dj of the show and Richard was the magician. He showed us all the cool tricks and taught us about gravity, carbon dioxide, oxygen and chemicals. We learnt about chemical reactions. We also learnt about nappies and how they work. We learnt that there is a chemical powder in nappies that turns liquid in to solid. I wondered in the show about the nappies and where they put the powder. I also wondered how gravity had to do with science. I liked the tricks though. I had fun today and learnt so much about science. I feel that science is more enjoyable now. I also think I might think about being a scientist for my career. Here's some photos and videos of the show. Hope you enjoy. Please feel free to comment.

Pepeha

Hey Blog World, these past few weeks we have been working on our pepeha's. We had to write it onto our art book and plan our colours and tukutuku panel drawings. When we finished our rough/practice copy we got an A4 piece of paper and copied our pepeha's. Except this time we coloured all the tukutuku panels. It was fun because I got to present who I am and learn about my family backgroud. It was challenging because it was hard drawing the tukutuku panels. From this experience I learnt more about my family background. Here's a photo and video of my pepeha. Hope you enjoy. Please feel free to comment.

Camping Poem

Hey Blog World, these past few weeks we have been writing poems that are based on camping. We did it in our language books first from scratch. Then we copied it into our art books but with the rough copy of our illustrations. The rough copy was to plan what we were going to draw and what colours we were going to use. Then when we finished our rough copy we got an A4 sized paper and we illustrated our poems. It was fun doing the poem because there were so many ideas I had on what camp topic to do it on. It was difficult because sometimes it was hard thinking of rhyming words for the verses. Here's a video and photo of my poem. Hope you enjoy. Please feel free to comment.

Character Questions

Hey Blog World, as part of our literacy tumble we hadto question a character of our choice in the text we read. I partnered up with my friend Faidhi. We screencastified me answering the questions he asked. I liked answering because I liked answering the ones he asked. It was hard because sometimes it was hard answering the questions. Heres the screencastify. Hope you enjoy. Please feel free to comment.

Poem

This term we had a poetry competition. We had to share a poem with relevant actions to go with it.  I liked doing it because I like doing drama/speaking out loud to a crowd. I didn't like that some people were speaking while the finalists were presenting their poems. But it was fun presenting my poem with my teachers and friends. After the poetry competition as part of our literacy tumble we had to screencastify us presenting our poem with the actions. I liked doing it because I got to see how I sounded like myself. Heres my screencastify. Hope you enjoy. Please feel free to comment.

Mt Ruapehu Ski Camp

Hey Blog World, the Senior Syndicate recently had their Mt Ruapehu Ski Camp. We spent 4 days there. On the first day, while on the way down we went to the Hamilton Gardens, Otorohanga Walkway and Taumarunui Elementery School. We had to find the names of the gardens at the Hamilton Gardens. It was a competition out of all the groups. We also had morning tea at the Hamilton Gardens. Then at the Otorohanga walkway we had to read the signs about New Zealand history and answer questions on the paper the groups were given. It was there we had lunch. Then at Taumarunui we had a play and a little snack before we got to the National Park Hotel to book our accomidation. When we got to National Park Hotel we set up our rooms. Then the next 2 days we had so much fun on the mountain. Then on the final day we went to the Taupo AC Baths. We stopped at Huka falls for sightseeing. After we visited the Hamilton Gardens again for a snack stop and for fresh air. This  was such a fun camp/experience. I loved snowboarding. But I didn't like waiting in lines because I just wanted to keep going up and down the mountain. But at the end of the day we had fun. I learnt so much at camp like how to zig zag, turn and stop on a snowboard. I learnt that I should be a little bit more patient with others. We made slides on the camp. These slides explain what we did, what we felt like and what activities we did. Heres my 2017 Mt Ruapehu Ski camp presentation. Hope you enjoy. Please feel free to comment.

Student Led Toolkits

Hey blog world, this week I went with 24 other students in our school to New Windsor School. We had to either present or learn about something on our chromebook. I learnt how to do incredibox and play prodigy. Oscar, Sam and Bruno did a presentation about slides animation. Amie, Lily and Izzy did a presentation on how to create and play a kahoot. We had so much fun. We had competitions like the sphero edu programming game. We had to control a ball using an ipad. Then we zig zagged through cones. That was fun. They picked prizes after. Then we left. I loved the day. I enjoyed learning new things and meeting new people. Something hard was when it didn't make sense or my chromebook wasn't working properly. It was really annoying. But I still enjoyed myself. Heres a slideshow of the day. Hope you enjoy. Please feel free to comment.

Mountain Inquiry

Hey Blog world, this term for inquiry we've been learning about mountains. Te Waka Ako is learning about this because were going to Mout Ruapehu for camp. Part of our inquiry was writing down the snow code is at Mt Ruapehu. Those are the rules at the mountain we have to keep to be safe or to set an example to others. We had to create an infographic about it. I really enjoyed this because I liked writing it down and having fun with Piktochart. The hard bit was finding symbols for the rules/snow code. But eventually I found symbols for them. Heres my infographic and the snow code it's self. Hope you enjoy. Please Feel free to comment on my blog.

Choir Rehersal

This week the school choir went to Glen Eden Intermidiate. We had our second B choir practice. We went to learn a new set of songs. At choir rehersal we practiced standing up and sitting down. The songs we practiced were man in the mirror, time to say goodbye, Can't help falling in love, I'll be there and Jump jive and wail, mist on the river and in our childrens eyes. What I liked about it was having fun singing the songs. What I disliked was when we got in trouble and when the teachers got annoyed. We had fun doing it and there were only small incidents where people got in trouble. I had a fun day and in the end we got the job done and learnt the next few songs. I can't wait until the next rehersal.

Te Reo Maori

Hey blog world, this week on our first day back into school we did Te Reo Maori. We learnt our Pepehas. We got a sheet with blankspaces on each line. we had to fill in info like where we come from, which town we live in, our family name, our first name, your mothers name, your fathers name and a river you feel you have a connection with. When we finished we had to screencastify us saying it or reading it. I had fun doing it because I love learning Te Reo. Especially because its one of the New Zealand languages. The New Zealand languages are Sign language, english and Maori. What was difficult was saying the Maori words properly. I didn't want to mess up. But my teacher Mr Ross told us to use Maori dictionary to help us say the pronounciation. It was so much fun doing it. Heres my screencastify. Hope you enjoy it. Please feel free to comment.
